Warm Bacon and Caramelised Onion Dip

Bacon and Caramelised Onion Dip is the ultimate appetizer! Simple to make, yet so flavourful and packed with sweet onion, smoky bacon and salty cheese. Perfect to pair with chips or veggies!

New Year's Eve is tomorrow night and with the lockdown, we don't have any plans to go out and celebrate. We will spend a quiet night at home, playing board games with the kids, maybe do a little karaoke and enjoying yummy snacks. I kind of feel like all I've been doing since Christmas Eve is eating, especially since yesterday was my birthday!  Sometimes you just need an awesome snack on a special occasion.

In the winter we are big fans of hot appetizers; dips in particular. Not only are they super easy to make, they are out of this world good. Everyone will go crazy over this one. Luxuriously creamy, with sweet caramelised onion, smoky bacon and salty cheese, this dip will be a hit every time you make it!

Warm Bacon and Caramelised Onion Dip

12 oz cream cheese
1/3 up sour cream
10 slices thick cut bacon, cooked and chopped
1 onion, sliced thin
1 cup grated Swiss cheese, divided
2 Tbs butter
1 tsp olive oil
1/4 C white wine
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

Add butter and olive oil to a medium skillet. Turn heat to medium-low and add onion. Allow onions to cook slowly and caramelise. This takes about 20-25 minutes so be patient so the onions do not burn.

Once the onions begin to get a nice brown colour, add in the white wine and scrape up the brown bits for the bottom of the pan. Let cook until the wine has evaporated; about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.

In a medium bowl, blend the cream cheese and sour cream. Gently stir in onions, bacon, salt, and pepper. Fold in 1/2 cup of Swiss cheese.

Spread dip into a small baking dish. Top with remaining cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes or until sides are hot and bubbly.Garnish with additional bacon and chopped green onion.

  1. Looks amazing. I already love the combo of caramelized onions and cheese but toss in some bacon and wine and that's a winner in my book!
