It was wonderful to spend time with them and just relax and enjoy being together. With Halloween being this weekend, this week will be busy at work and at home. I was happily surprised to see that they are a VERY popular cookie in the U.K. They remind me of cookies my Mom use to make when we were little, so I knew I wanted to try a homemade version since they aren't readily available here in Canada. These Jammie Dodgers have buttercream frosting and jam, sandwiched between two sugary shortbread cookies. Absolutely fabulous!! Not only are they super pretty, they are crazy delicious. The kids inhaled a few, after I made these.... OK, so did I, LOL. My parents were coming to visit, so I knew these would be a perfect treat for my Dad, who has always had a sweet tooth like me. We had our Thanksgiving dinner with family yesterday. It was nice to get together with everyone this year, thanks to vaccinations! We all ate until we almost burst, laughed and just enjoyed being together again, for the first time in a long time. Jump to Recipe October has arrived and I am in the autumn mood. Even though we are still enjoying the warm temperatures, it has been gloomy and the sun is setting earlier every evening. When Autumn arrives, I start craving the comforting warm flavours of apple desserts. There is just something about the smell of apple and cinnamon that makes my heart happy. While we do enjoy apples all year round, the cooler weather lets us fire up the oven, to enjoy some homemade baked goodies.  The kids wanted dessert the other day, and I was exhausted from work. I thought about making apple crisp, but I had yet to do groceries and we were low on ingredients. Is it me, or does it feel like this year is flying by? I can't believe I've been back to work for over a month now. I'm still trying to get used to being so busy, but am loving every minute of my time in my little cafeteria. Yesterday we celebrated my mother in law's birthday, by treating her to dinner out.
